Teaching Abroad Part Two: Week 6

Happy Easter, a day later!

This week the kids had no school the last two days, and also today, so we've been busy spending as much time together as possible. The Easter tradition here is the kids receive GIANT chocolate eggs the morning of, and when I say these are giant, they're bigger than a school textbook for reference. We biked all over the small villages every day, Cris nearly wrecked as always, but we somehow survived the steep hills and rewarded ourselves with juice from the market.

On Easter, we had lunch at the grandma's house, and after I surprised the children with a traditional Easter egg hunt. I had so much fun hiding the eggs, that I forgot where I put a few and we still haven't been able to find them. It will be a fun surprise though later for whoever does find the last few eggs. The kids loved it so much that we spent the entire day switching who gets to hide them and took turns hunting them.

Today the mom surprised us with a trip to... Cowboyland, a small theme park inspired by none other than the old west. Felt like I stepped back home when I got out of the car and smelled the beautiful fresh air filled with dust from the gravel roads and horse manure. It was fun though to see Italians walking around with cowboy hats on and attempting to line dance. Never thought in my entire life that I would say those words, but I should know by now that I should always expect the unexpected.

Sadly the four-day holiday is over tomorrow, and it's back to work and school, but that's life.

Until next week, ciao tutti!
