Spring is finally near, and the weather has been amazing. The kids and I are outside every day, and my freckles are proof of that. With the warm weather we've had the kids and I have ventured up to Castell'afero, the closest village, and where the children go to school. Even though it is small, it is my favorite thing about where the family lives and looks straight out of a movie.
The walk is entirely uphill, and Cris and I have trekked it many times, but Asia, being much younger and smaller doesn't go very often by foot. This week though, she accomplished her goals and made the entire trek all on her own, and we were rewarded with Italy's finest water fountain. A small fountain that shoots water directly at your face, and almost always misses your mouth. We played at the park with all of Asia's friends for hours, and even though a single kid there, besides Asia, didn't speak English, I played with them as if I had known them their entire lives. That is what I love about children. They're so innocent and welcoming. None of the kids could care less that I couldn't properly talk to them, and the same for them, even though I could understand them. We didn't have to talk or speak the same language to enjoy each other's company. We all know how to laugh, and that was all that mattered.
I decided to welcome spring in properly, by taking the kids on a picnic in a nearby field filled with trees. The kids loved it so much, they're convinced food tastes better when eaten outside in the sun. I think might agree with them.
A first for me this week is now my dreams are partially in English and Italian. Never thought I'd be able to say in my dreams Italian is spoken, but I guess there is a first for everything.
To end the week, and maybe even the highlight, was Asia and I played soccer for hours outside and decided to rest inside and get a drink of water. Well, two hours later I woke up to a sweaty five-year-old laying on top of me and the sun completely gone. The best naps are always unintentional, especially after a long week of playing hard. Until next week!
