Life Lately: Barcelona & More

Hello, it’s been a few weeks since I’ve last posted, and while I would love to say it’s because I was so busy…the honest truth is I haven’t done anything worth writing about…until this past week!

I had two very important visitors come all the way from Oklahoma meet me in Barcelona, and it was the best week with them out here! This was also all of our first times visiting Barcelona, and the first time Ari and David had been to Spain.

We explored the beautiful cathedrals, the Sagrada being nothing like I’ve ever seen before, parks filled with children running through bubbles and picnics filling every inch of grass available, spent a day relaxing at the beach, and got lost down the many alleys and found ourselves immersed in the beautiful culture every day.

It’s hard to choose what my favorite part about the entire trip was, of course, I could say the amazing warm weather and sunshine that I’ve missed while living in the north. Or even when we all got tattoos to mark our time spent here. Maybe even finding a speakeasy that was disguised as a barber shop, with an old retro-themed style bar in the back. It’s hard to choose between all of the amazing experiences we had, but if I’m being honest, as much as I loved Barcelona and our time there, my favorite part was spending time with Ari and David!

There are so many pros when it comes to moving across the world and I wouldn’t trade what I have and the decisions I’ve made…but leaving does come with a cost. Not seeing friends and family is probably one of the hardest parts of moving, whether it’s across the world or even a town away, you don’t realize how much you miss them and your random conversations, or the long hours of laughing at nothing until you go without it. So, while I loved every part of Barcelona and the beautiful city, which I have to say, I like better than Madrid…my favorite part was having my best friends come and visit!

Of course, saying goodbye was the worst…and I debated “missing” my flight back to Bilbao, but life must go on and our goodbye was just a see you later!

Apart from my trip to Barcelona, my students have been working hard on their ecosystem projects, which they finished this week and proudly showcased to the school. One of my favorite parts about teaching is seeing the students proud of their hard work and accomplishments, in and out of the classroom. Their dedication and hard work are contagious and inspiring and motivation for me every day.

I ended my long week with a party in Bilbao with the friends I’ve made while living here and it was the perfect end to a fun, amazing and exhausting week. We ate amazing food, drank German cider, and laughed for hours. The party couldn’t have come at a better time after saying goodbye to Ari and David…and I’m grateful for the friendships I’ve made here in Spain that remind me that I made the right decision moving here!

Until next week, Agur!
